The Award Winning Gill Hydrophobe Down

Posted by jennie on 24th Jan 2018

Each year, SAIL Magazine searches far and wide for new, unique and innovative sailing gear to nominate for the Pittman Innovation Awards and we are proud to announce our Hydrophobe Down Collection as a 2018 recipient in the cruising category!

The SAIL editors said: “It has been an enduring dilemma for sailors down through the ages: how do you stay both warm and dry when out on your boat? To solve this puzzle, the sailing gear specialists at Gill have devised a unique hydrophobic water-repellent down insulation that doesn’t clump up and cease holding in warmth when it gets damp.”

Our Gill team is composed of sailors, power-boaters, and marine enthusiasts. We know your world, and we noticed this product missing from the market, so our designers created the first ever down jacket made for the marine environment. First ever? Yep. How’s that for innovative? The Hydrophobe Down's designer, Colette, said:

"The idea of this style was initiated 4 years ago and I for one was really excited to get one. It is now one of the first products I go to when I want to keep warm. It was a lifesaver for my Christmas Break in North Devon where it was pretty wet and wild. In comparison to conventional down it dries and reforms its shape much quicker than my other down product in my wardrobe, which makes a huge difference when you are trying to keep warm."

Thank you, SAIL Magazine for the award!
