ALCATEL J/70 CUP

Scarlino, August 1st 2017 - The curtains fall on the 2017 edition of ALCATEL J/70 CUP, national circuit promoted by J/70 Italian Class and organized with an open formula that allowed crews from all over the world to join an already copious Italian fleet in one of the most crowded one-design circuits of the globe.

A total of 101 crews from 19 different countries participated in the events held in Sanremo, Malcesine, Riva del Garda and Scarlino: from the Cayman Islands to Norway, Turkey to the USA. Many arrived in Italy to start testing the fleet that will also compete in the Audi J/70 World Championship, held in Porto Cervo in September.

With two victories out of the four events, Calvi Network by owner Carlo Alberini affirms itself as one of the fastest boats of the fleet. For the second time, the crew on board Branko Brcin, Karlo Hmeljak and Sergio Blosi also earn the title of J/70 Class National Champions. In the last two years, the same title was won by L'Elagain of Franco Solerio. This year they closed the circuit in fourth position overall.

Second and third place in the overall ranking go respectively to the twice European Champion Claudia Rossi, aboard Petite Terrible, and the Continental Champions of 2015 on board of Notaro Team by Luca Domenici.

In the Corinthian division, reserved for non-professional sailors, White Hawk by Gianfranco Noè won all the events of the circuits and came out as the indisputable leader of the fleet. The result of Noè is also great in terms of overall ranking, since the crew closes the circuit in fifth position overall. The top-three of the Corinthian division is completed by Magie Das Sailing Team by Alessandro Zampori and by Jaws Too by Marco Schirato.

At Scarlino, during the final leg of the national circuit, the podium was occupied in first position by the American entry Relative Obscurity by Peter Duncan; this was his first participation in an ALCATEL J/70 CUP event, closely followed by Petite Terrible and then by the winner of the circuit itself, Calvi Network.

In the top-three of the Corinthian ranking, the gold medal went to White Hawk, followed by Magie Das Sailing Team and Quarter to Eleven by the owners Zuppiger-Stettler.

Moving on from Scarlino, the attention of the fleet moves to the event of the year, the Audi J/70 World Championship in September.  More than two months earlier than the first start, the organizers were forced to close registrations due to the huge requests for participation: Consequently there will be 175 boats, from twenty-four nations on the race course of Porto Cervo.
