This weekend sees Gill-sponsored Moth sailors Dan Ward and James McMillan flying out to Bermuda to take part in the first Amlin International Moth Regatta. From the 5th-11th December a fleet of 60 sailors experienced in world, continental and national championships will take part in the competition.
Dan Ward started sailing Cadets at a small lake called Frensham Ponds, before moving into Lasers where he ended up campaigning full time to go to the 2008 Olympics. He holds a hold a master’s degree in Naval Architecture and is a chartered engineer. As a Moth sailor, he now gets to utilise both his engineering and racing skills in the fastest racing dinghy monohull.
“I’m excited to be getting out to Bermuda on Friday,” Dan said. “Warm weather’s expected, which will be prefect for racing in my Gill Speedskin.”
Also taking part in the Amlin International Moth Regatta is James McMillan. He started out with the Oppies at the age of 5, and from there worked his way up the ranks into the national squad. Today now competes at the top end of the International Foiling Moth fleet against some of the world’s best sailors.
Racing at Amlin will finish on the afternoon of Friday 11th December, where there will be a ceremony to award a pot of $10,000 in prize money to winners. You can follow updates from the regatta on their Facebook page.
