Love Sailing? My Best Moment: Harrison & Fergus Pye
Posted by jennie on 2nd Feb 2018
We asked our Gill Race Team members about their best moments in sailing. Here's what Harrison and Fergus Pye had to say.
1. What’s the best moment in your sailing career?
Harrison: My best moment was winning two races at the RS Feva Nationals last year at Torbay. It was pretty breezy and our downwind legs were fast. I'd also put being part of the team that won the RYA Eric Twiname Junior Team Racing Champs in 2016 up there.Fergus: Taking part in the RS Tera Worlds in Santona, Spain in 2016. I did well, finishing 5th in the Sport rig but it was the whole experience. There venue was beautiful and we sailed from the beach. We were able to cool off by swimming and diving off the quay after sailing every day.
2. What makes you want to continue sailing?
Harrison: I enjoy the competitiveness of the racing.Fergus: I enjoy the challenge of competing and the great social. I have made a lot of friends through sailing.
3. What is the pinnacle of your sailing life so far?
Harrison: Winning the RS Tera Worlds in 2015.Fergus: In the RS Feva it would be coming second in the Winter Champs at Weymouth in 2016, and in the RS Tera it would be winning the Start of Season Champs and the Eastern Area Champs and coming second in the Inlands in one year.
4. What is your favourite Gill kit?
Harrison: The Thermoskin Suit and the Thermoshield Top. The skiff suit is very flexible and the thermoshield top is an additional warm layer; the neck is fleece lined which makes it very cosy and chafing less likely.Fergus: The Thermoskin winter wetsuit kept me toasty this winter. Another favourite is the Thermoskin Top which I can wear with many different combinations of skiff suits, wetsuit shorts or winter wetsuits, according to the temperature.
