Love Sailing? My Best Moment: Miles Quinton
Posted by jennie on 12th Feb 2018
We asked our Gill Race Team members about their best moments in sailing. Here's what Miles Quinton had to say.
1. What’s the best moment in your sailing career?
It is hard to choose as I have had so many amazing moments as a sailor with the Gill Race Team. If I had to choose one it would be from the Melges24 Europeans in Hyeres in 2016. We entered the last day leading the Corinthian fleet and in 3rd place overall but with Lenny the second placed boat close behind. There was no wind forecast for the day so part of me was hoping we would not sail. When we went onto the water it was extremely light but we knew as long as we stayed ahead of our close competitors we would consolidate our position. We have a good start and first beat but tacked under the fleet on the starboard lay line got squeezed out which let Lenny through. We chased them for the whole race and we knew that if only we could finish directly behind them we would win on count back. We passed boat after boat until only one remained which we passed on the last gybe to the finish line![caption id="attachment_1360" align="aligncenter" width="1920"]

Champagne never tasted so sweet as when we lifted the trophy!
2.What is your favourite Gill kit?
My favourite Gill sailing items are the Race Softshell Smock and Thermal Hot Socks!
