Posted by gill_admin on 30th Jan 2014
After seven races in Ciudad de Torrevieja Spain, Milo Gill-Taylor is placed 8th out of 313 young sailors and 2nd in GBR for the VII Trofeo Internacional Optimist Trophy.
With winds averaging at 25 knots, blue skies and sunshine, Milo was off to a bad start in the first race. He fought back and managed to place 3rd and 4th in the last two races of the day.
As the second day of racing commenced, the gusts of wind picked up to 28 knots with lulls of 10 knots. After putting an extreme amount of effort in, Milo came first by a long shot in his first race. He said “It was one of the most knackering races I have ever done!” In the second race, due to a tactical mishap, Milo placed 7th. As weather conditions deteriorated, the last race was abandoned.
For the last day of racing, Milo was lying in 6th place. Fleets were divided in Gold, Silver and Bronze and the first race begun. Unfortunately Milo nose dived at the reach but in the second race he worked really hard and came first! Due to weather conditions, the last two races were abandoned.
At the prize giving, Milo gave a speech on behalf of the GBR sailors and presented the host club with a Spinnaker Club tie (his home club).
